Keeping your windshield clean is essential to driving; however, some drivers forget to change wiper blades before it’s too late. There are a number of signs that you need new wipers, from strange noises to poor visibility. If you notice all (or simply one) of the following signs, it’s a good idea to bring your vehicle to our dealership service center for repairs as soon as possible.
Dirt, Smears, and Streaks.
The first and most obvious sign that you need new windshield wipers is that they’re simply not doing the job. You can help keep the blades clean by wiping them with a paper towel every few weeks. However, if you still notice that your windshield isn’t getting clean, then it’s a good idea to change the blades.
Skipping or No Contact.
If you turn on your windshield wipers but you notice that it’s missing a portion of the windshield, then it’s a good idea to bring your car to a dealership service department. This can not only be a sign of bad wiper blades, but also a bent wiper arm. This is also true if you notice that your wipers aren’t removing leaves or other debris as easily as before.
Peeling Wiper Blades.
Do you notice that your wiper blades are peeling? It’s likely that the rubber compound in the blades is breaking down. If your blades are peeling or cracked, consider replacing them.
Squealing or Scratching Noises.
Sometimes wipers make noises when they’re on. But if you notice a consistent squealing or scratching sound, it’s usually time to buy new ones. The rubber can wear down after use, which leaves a metal arm that can scrape the glass. Not only is this annoying, but it can also damage the windshield.
