If you truly want to go off the beaten path, then look no further than Caldesi Island. Only accessible by ferry or private boat, this island has no paved roads at all. According to USA Today, you’ll find “three miles of truly unspoiled beaches” on the island.
Gasparilla Island is another lesser-known Florida hotspot, situated between the counties of Lee and Charlotte in southwest Florida. In addition to drop-dead gorgeous beaches, you may also find hidden treasure. The island gets its name from Jose Gaspar, a famous pirate, who used the island as his base.
Vero Beach is located along Florida’s Treasure Coast. What makes Vero Beach so unique is the Indian River Lagoon. This is a beautiful and extensive lagoon makes for a stunningly beautiful kayaking experience.
Blowing Rocks Preserve is a great destination for the nature-lover. The name comes from the limestone shoreline, the largest of its kind on the U.S. Atlantic Coast. You’ll see a lot of special and endangered species of plant and animals on the preserve, including several species of sea turtles.
