Who you gonna call? Lots of people are excited about the new Ghostbusters, starring an all-new cast of arguably the best comedians out there. But who stars alongside Leslie Jones, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, and Kristen Wiig? A Cadillac!
That’s right. Just like in the classic 1984 version, the Cadillac is once again a star of the film. The original Ghostbusters features a classic 1959 Cadillac ambulance, lovingly called the Ecto-1. The director of the new movie, Paul Feig, wanted to keep that element of the original vehicle.
The new Ecto-1, aka “ectoplasm” (fictional ghost blood), definitely gives a nod to its predecessor. It’s a 1980’s Cadillac Fleetwood hearse, straight out of the Reagan-era!
“The minute I saw this mid-‘80’s Cadillac Fleetwood hearse, I thought, that’s it. I love the straight lines of those cars,” director Paul Feig said,” It looked cool and modern, while still old.”
It’ll keep the Ecto-1 name and bear the classic Ghostbusters symbol on the driver’s door. The car bears a fake New York license plate titled “Ecto-1” (because the real Ecto-1 plate is already on a Lexus in Long Island!) and an awesome ghost hood ornament.
There’s plenty more to love about it, just wait for the movie!
